4th Graders Celebrate

Martin Luther King Day

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, the 4th graders listened to the story of Martin’s Big Words written by Doreen Rappaport.  The book not only contains beautiful illustrations, but includes direct quotes from Dr. King’s famous speeches.

The students in 4th grade each received a paper candle.  They attached a pipe cleaner “wick” and a tissue paper “flame”.  On their candle, the 4th graders wrote their “dream” for the world.  Many students wished for things like world peace and an end to hunger.  The students each put their candle on a birthday cake in the hallway dedicated to Dr. King.

The 4th graders also listened to parts of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
