Have you ever read Donavan’s Word Jar by
Monalisa DeGross? We did in reading
class! Many of Donvan’s friends have collections
of things such as marbles and coins, but Donavan collects something special –
words! When Donavan finds a word the
first thing he does it check the spelling and meaning in a dictionary. Then he adds the word to his jar. In the story, Donavan is running out of
room in his word jar and he is looking for a solution to his problem. With a little help from his Grandma and the
people at her apartment building, Donavan learns how sharing his collection
with others and seeing their happiness is a great feeling! After reading Donavan’s Word Jar, the 4th
graders created their own word jars.
They collected new words during the week and wrote them on pieces of
paper. On Friday, we shared our words
with each other. It was a ton of fun
learning so many new and exciting words!
